Using your community (members)
This page is for members of a community running on InfoEmu. If you administer a forum, see Forum admin basics instead. (Community owners: feel free to link your members here, or copy this into your own onboarding topic.)
Create your account
Section titled “Create your account”- Register with a username, email, and password. Depending on the community you may need to accept the terms, confirm your email, or supply an invite code.
- Some communities use Google or GitHub sign-in — use the button on the login page if it’s offered.
- You can also log in with either your username or email plus your password, and stay signed in with Remember me.
Forgot your password? Use Forgot password on the login page to get a reset link.
Read and post
Section titled “Read and post”- Browse categories → forums → topics. Open a topic to read the discussion.
- Start a topic in a forum, choosing a type: a normal discussion, a Question (where an answer can be marked), an Article, or a Suggestion.
- Reply to a topic, and quote an existing post to reply to it directly. A live preview shows how your Markdown will render before you post.
- Edit or delete your own posts where the community allows it.
React, vote, and answer
Section titled “React, vote, and answer”- Leave an emoji reaction on a post.
- In some communities you can up/down-vote posts.
- In Question topics, the author or a moderator can mark a post as the answer.
When someone starts a topic they can attach a poll — a question with two or more options, optionally allowing multiple choices, with a closing date. Cast your vote on the topic page; re-voting replaces your previous choice, and you can’t vote once the poll closes.
Follow discussions
Section titled “Follow discussions”- Track a topic to add it to your personal watchlist, or tick Track this topic when you post. Your tracked topics live on your Topic tracker page.
- Mark forums or topics as read to clear what’s new.
Private messages
Section titled “Private messages”If the community enables conversations, you can send private messages: compose from your inbox or from a member’s profile, reply within a thread, save drafts, and move messages to trash. An unread indicator appears in the nav.
Search and members
Section titled “Search and members”- Search for posts, topics, forums, or users (minimum three characters). You only ever see results you have permission to view.
- Where enabled, browse the member list and see who’s online.
Your profile and account
Section titled “Your profile and account”- Your profile shows your activity — overview, topics, and posts.
- Edit your details: avatar (by URL), signature, location, website, birthday, and more.
- In settings, choose your language and theme, change your email (confirmed via a link sent to the new address), and change your password.
Report a problem
Section titled “Report a problem”See a post that breaks the rules? Use Report on the post and give a reason. It goes privately to the community’s moderators.
